I want to close up the basement floor drain in the picture attached. It serves no purpose as this will be a work-out and all purpose room we want to put LVP down over it. There is another floor drain about 20’ away in the mechanical room so I don’t see the purpose of them both anyways.

I was going to use self leveling floor patch over concrete filled in the hole, but my question is around plugging the drain. Can I put a rubber plug in there before the concrete and cover it? I don’t want concrete going down into my drain pipes.

Any other suggestions besides a rubber drain plug?

I have seen paper balled up with wire around it ,pull the wire up higher than the drain, mix up plaster of Paris pour it in over the paper

If you ever had to you could break up the plaster of Paris and pull out the paper

I usually get a trash bag and wad it up into a ball then force it into the pipe about 6” with a hammer handle. Then fill it full of hydraulic concrete.
