Cast Iron U-Pipe Trap in Washer Drain Leg

The 1-1/2" clothes washer drain has progressively become more clogged. Difficult to shove a 1/4 snake through, and impossible to force a 3/8, even just the bare butt end.

Opened up the wall today and found this cast-iron u-pipe. Guessing it is is mostly plugged with rust.

Repeated, vigorous snaking with the 1/4 has cleared it out some. But I should probably replace with PVC?

You'd be best off having a plumber replace as much as possible. The P trap should be 2" and we put a cleanout tee in the stack as well.
