Can someone tell me what this pipe is

My wife discovered it when cleaning the basement..Is this an old plumbing or electrical pipe...Note it is a metal type pipe. The picture is taken in the basement at the Rim Joist. Someone obviously cut it off at the basement, but it appears to also lead into the crawl space and up to the attic... Please see attached

Tap it with a hammer. If it dents or bends easily, it is lead, and is almost certainly an old plumbing pipe.

I tapped with a hammer..and it did not bend...it seems pretty strong..any ideas ? Note this house is from 1910 appx..

Use a magnet to see if it's steel pipe. Look for evidence nearby of anything electrical or gas that may have been removed. Could be wire conduit or gas supply.
Maybe even scratch it a little with a knife and see if it's threaded brass. Brass turns black over time.
The light is a little close and bright to see what color the metal is on the cut end.
