Brown water after installing new water softener?

I just installed a GE water softener in my house that's less than a year old after it was all set up and a lot of water through it we filled up a tub and it had a brown tint to it. Any thoughts on why?

Any time you mess with the pipes, you will get rust/crud from the inside of the pipes to flow through the system. It will dissipate soon.

But one question, what was the reason that you installed the softener, and did you have the water tested?
