Hello,
I recently tried replacing my bathroom sink drain because it got backed up and then I tried cleaning it up it was falling apart. No matter what I do, when I am hook the new drain tail (1.25") into the existing P trap apparatus (1.5"), it starts leaking. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I did try replacing the ring that is supposed to convert the sizing according to the guy at the hardware store.

Thanks, the leak is actually occurring where the gray pipe joins with the white
There’s suppose to be a step down reducing washer there. 1.25” x 1.5”.

Use some silicone on each side of it as pipe dope and hand tighten it.
