I have a very old basement walkout... basement door leads to stairs with drain at the foot of the stairs. Has overhead bulkhead/bilko door as well. I am getting seepage from the cinderblock retaining wall. Its stays damp in this area and a bit of the water that accumulates runs off into the drain at the foot of the stairs. I realize the fix is digging out the outside and waterproofing and adding a drain... but since this is outside of the house and there is a drain there I am wondering if its neccessary.
2 questions:
Would you agree some moisture in this type of area is normal/typical or should I be expecting it to stay bone dry?
Again there is a floor drain in this area catching moisture. This drain is connected to the sanitary sewer, its been this way for 60+ years.
If I were to redo the drain system, is it wrong to continue using the sanitary sewer or do I have to go to the trouble of getting it into my sump pit inside the basement?
