Hi,
I have purchased an American Standard Lakewell Cast Iron sink.
It was/is my intent to mount this sink higher than what is specified on their spec sheet. They have the lip of the sink at 26" which is very low. Most sinks are 30 - 33".
This sink comes with a hangar to mount it to the wall. It also has a separate floor standing P Trap that goes with it. I was not planning on using that P Trap and just have it mounted to the wall then get a seperate chrome P trap for the drain.
There is a comment on that page that says this sink must sit on the P Trap which is on the floor to help support the sink. I can't find the weight anywhere on their site, but it is fairly heavy- I'll guess 40 - 50 lbs or so.
So my question is whether the general opinion is whether just having this sink on the hangar is enough support or do I absolutely have to have it sitting on the P Trap?

Here's a link to the sink:

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Your link doesn't work, so I googled it. Is this the sink you're talking about:

Wow, strange looking sink! Here's the product page on the American Standard website: lakewell-enameled-cast-iron-service-sink

It would seem the support is necessary by looking at the images. Let the experts reply though.

yep that's it. There may be a way to raise it. There is a threaded pipe on the bottom - if it is not long enough maybe I can have a longer one fabricated. Or I could cast a raised concrete pedestal for it to sit on...

Support it good if you take the trap off, as it also acts as a leg. If the sink weighs 50lbs, every gallon of water it holds is another 10lbs. Put some wood backing in the wall and use some good lag bolts.
