I'm looking to add a valve to a 3/4 copper line. My trouble is, although i have plenty of room to work I cant readily move the ends of the line. That means obviously when i cut the line i wont be able to pull the ends apart far enough to install the sweat valve.

My current thought is to cut out about a two foot section. Install the valve, then use four 90 degree elbows to offset a section of the pipe so It can be assembled and soldered together without any stress.

If that a reasonable thing to do? Any better ideas?

They came out recently with these really cool fittings called slip couplings or coupling w/o stop. Comes in handy for your situation.
