A solution to a mysterious humming noise can often be found by checking your toilet.
The ballcock can vibrate and often not even be heard at the source.
It will resonate through a copper water system like a guitar string.
This particular one is exceptionally loud.
This particular job another plumber had thought it was a water meter that was located inside a nearby closet.

Mr David, That has to be one of the worst noises I have ever heard coming from a toilet! Thanks for taking the time to post it!

I don't think even I could sleep through that!

I once had a water softener that did that when it backwashed. I'm glad it was outside.

That one is extremely loud.
Usually they create a softer high pitched hum
I had another one previously in a 16 unit building.
The management wanted us to replace the 1-1/2" PRV because that's where you could hear it and in a unit on the opposite end of the building. So we did.
Stopped Humming for about 2 weeks.
I told them what it was and needed to get access to all the units to check the Toilets. After 2 more service calls they got me into a unit 2 units away from the PRV and BINGO, a humming ballcock.
