I have a shower value this is getting progressively harder to turn off and making a squeaking noise. Took the cover off to access the valve but what kind of lubricant silicone or WD40 or ??

Kohler, it was installed 18 months ago as part of major remodel

Kohler has many types and models of faucets. You will need both the name and # of your faucet to get the correct parts. If you could post a picture of your faucet I may be able to identify it for you. Just lubricating it won't solve your problem.

appears to be a model K306 from my documentation. I have transfer valves for the jets as well so not sure what manual goes with which fixture

It appears that Kohler in there infinite wisdom have discontinued that faucet. That is the main reason why I don't use them. They do this very often. Delta and Moen our the better choice. There faucet parts have stayed the same for many years and they will ship you the parts you need free of charge for life. Your best bet would be to contact Kohler and tell them the problems your having they may do the same once. But don't count on it happening a second time. There parts are very expensive. Here is a link to your faucet.

Thanks for your help...Tried to call 1800-4KOHLER but they only offer support
M-F 8-5. I searched the k306 and it came up as K-2971? could this be a replacement model with same guts? My remodel invoice shows I paid $400 (before discount) on this valve. So you think I am going to be able to replace part of it or have to replace the entire valve?

If you look at the link I sent you in the lower left hand corner there is another link to the parts break down. From there click on the individual parts and it will give you the # of the part along with the price. My guess would be you need the Cover Assembly Kit. It's very pricey for what it is. That's why I suggested you call Kohler they may ship you the parts free of charge. Kohler is a good company they make excellent plumbing fixtures (toilets, tubs and sinks) it's just there faucets that need improvement.

In the last 3 times we;ve dealt with kohler we have had 3 problems. customer service is a joke there and just last friday I installed a wall mount sink with a soap dispenser hole that was smack dab in the middle of the shroud that was specific to that very sink, that and their spec sheet was all messed up and even the people a kohler couldnt give us proper information..... I will never, ever use kohler again, I cant believe im saying this but i prefer price phister over kohler now... ( even though pp is crap too )

as for their toilets 2 weeks ago i replace 14 defective wall mount toilets.

end rant .
