I have that Clack water softener "speedbump" sold me. Lately I've been running a warm misting humidifier. The other day I took the humidifier apart to clean it and the water in the bottom was brown and around the heating element it looked like melted clear plastic. Could the plastic be resin from the softener? And what about the brown? I also see some blown dirt like stuff in the salt tank. This is on a well with no filters.

Thanks

The dirt in the brine tank is normal. The salt you buy isn't pristine. I just ignore mine, then the gunk in the bottom doesn't bother me. As for the humidifier, I don't know what's going on with that. We don't need them here in Florida. Our humidity works very good all by it's self. If you were losing mineral from your softener, you would see it on the backwash cycle coming out of the drain tube.
