I am a very serious DIY'er and I am a very mechanically inclined individual. We have recently moved into my mother-in-laws house that we will be buying this coming spring and I have already begun repairs and updating of the plumbing and wiring.( I worked with electric in the Army, so I am not a stranger to it) Plumbing is not an issue either, considering I have been repairing/replacing what a "Contractor" put in for my in-laws years ago. I have plenty of literature on building codes, got that covered.

My question is about the water pressure. Small one story home, approximately 1400 +/- sq. ft. Kitchen sink, bathroom sink, tub, shower, toilet and washing machine. Anytime there is 2 lines being used, water pressure drops significantly compared to other homes I have been in. There is 3/4 in PVC line comming off the main that runs over to a maze of 1/2in. Is my pressure drop caused from all the 1/2in line? I thought I read in one of my books that you want 3/4in to run almost all the way to whatever you are supplying before reducing down to 1/2in? Is this true or is this the problem?

All input is greatly appreciated.

It can be a problem if the water pressure is low. The rule of thumb is not to have more then on fixture on 1/2". The mains should be 3/4" with 1/2" branches to each fixture.

Thats what I figured. Next spring we have a huge add on/renovation project planned and I am gonna start the plumbing all over; fresh. From the meter and beyond.
