I have a water heater that is about 4 yrs old. All is working good. I had a question about hot water heater installations. Possibly for the future.

My current water heater has the piping soldered directly to the top. It was done professionally, but I now see how some have these flexible piping lines connected to the water heater. (Pic below). I kind of like this design and may want to consider it for the future. It seems to be more DIY.

What is the reason more don’t do it this way with flexible piping? Maybe flex connect also for the gas line as well. Is it maybe a code reason? So more people have to hire a professional and can’t DIY? Just curious.

Hard piped is no longer preferred. Corrugated stainless steel is the way to go on water. flex on gas also
You can’t beat actually learning how to do an installation safely. Lots of places to do it improperly and unsafely.
