I bought my manufactured home in 2010, but it was built in 1994. The home is on a full poured wall basement. I am assuming the Rheem 30 gallon propane water heater is original with the house so I want to replace it. As with most manufactured homes, the water heater is located upstairs in a compartment behind a bedroom closet. I want to put the new water heater in the basement and upgrade to a rheem 50 gallon model.
Here's my problem: I don't remember how I stumbled upon this information on the Internet, but I see you can only put a HUD compliant water heater in a manufactured home, mainly because they are located upstairs they get their combustion air through the bottom of the heater. Sure enough, I looked under my heater and saw the inlet pipe going through the floor and then I went to the basement and found the end directly below the water heater, so I guess it is drawing the combustion air through the basement.
Is there any concerns in my case of installing a standard water heater in the basement?
Thank you for your educated responses.
