Hello,

I recently replaced a bad thermocouple on a friend's water heater. I think I may have tightened the nut on the burner supply line too tight and possibly cross threaded the nut or the threads in the valve controller. I cannot tell by looking at them which is damaged but the nut will not screw into the control straight now. I'm not sure of the next step to take here. When this happens is it usually the male or female part of the connection that gets cross threaded? Any advice is appreciated.

Time to replace the control valve and possibly the burner.

Good luck
