Hey there! I’m looking for some advice on a plumbing project I’m working on and trying to draft plans for. I really want to get it right from the start so I don’t end up looking clueless in front of the inspectors or the city.

I’m adding a bathroom with a shower and toilet to the first floor of a two-story slab-on-grade house. Luckily, the spot I’m adding it is just a few feet from the main drain, so the plan is to intercept there. I’ve got the layout ready and the plans drafted, but I’m stuck on what to do about the vent line.

Can I run it out the side of the house, or does it have to go all the way up through the roof? Running it through the roof sounds like a total nightmare if that’s the case considering it's a 2 story house, fireblocks, etc.. Also, when it comes to venting, I’ve understood the vent line needs to be higher than the p-trap it's venting - Is that the case for the whole house, or just for the fixtures I’m adding? Maybe I should look into using an Air Admittance Valve in order to vent?? Thoughts??

Thanks in advanced!
