Hey Everyone,

I moved into my home with a Navien tankless water heater already installed. It works great and I’d like to keep it that way so I researched how to flush it with vinegar. After watching a bunch of videos and reading the manual, I noticed that my pipes leading into the unit are missing the service ports for me to connect the hoses to. I posted pictures of the heat supply, return, etc pipes. Am I missing something here or do I really not have these ports? I’m no plumber so I apologize if it’s a dumb question. If I, in fact, don’t have these ports, how much would it cost to have them installed? Is there any way to clean this unit without these ports? I appreciate the help!

No, you don’t have them. And the pro-press fittings mean 90% that it was installed by a licensed plumber. You‘re in Massachusetts, so they are probably required by code, but may not have been at the time of installation.

Okay thanks for the info. I have the company’s name and number. I wonder if I could contact them and have them come out and install the service ports. Either way, doesn’t sound cheap!

As said before, I had a rep from Navien side by side with my contractor, and made sure to add the needed service ports as well as system disconnect unions.

I just think it’s weird that they wouldn’t install them. It seems like common practice. Especially since the Navien manual lists these ports as something you should have to service the unit.

Trust me—they have little to no concern for you; only doing the job in the fastest and least costly way possible.

I’m no plumber either but was absolutely certain to install a set of these valves:

When I installed a Takagi tankless in my heated driveway heat system. It didn’t take but the slightest amount of research to determine that this is the only way to install a tankless properly.

I wish I was here when this thing was installed or else I would have made sure it was done properly like you did. Thanks for all the info! I’m gonna call the company that installed it and see what it’s going to cost for them to “fix” 😑
