We need to replace our 50 gal electric water heater and are to get something more efficient. We typically have the kitchen sink running off and on the whole day and maybe one shower in the evening. We have what I believe are two 250 gallon propane tanks with a 1/2" line which only feeds a stove which is seldom used. I've looked at a Rheem 13 kw which does 2.5 gallons per minute. We have the electrical capacity to run it. I've done a good bit of research and it seems that propane would be cheaper to run. Got me to thinking about just swapping to a regular propane tank heater. I'd like to hear some opinions from some pros before we dive in. Our current tank is about 10 feet from the outside wall where the gas line is.

Forget electric tankless.

Get the largest propane tankless you can afford. That way you’ll have plenty of hot water if you need it and it’s not that much more. Inside units are around 2k and outside units are about $1400.

Run a dedicated gas line to the unit.

Trust me and have a good weekend.

Thanks Two. That's the way I'm leaning. What about maintenance?
