I replaced a basement sump pump with a new one of the same ratings. The pump discharge ties into a common line in the overhead with a bathtub drain from the bathroom directly above just before going into the main soil drain. This sump receives the washing machine drain and pumps out frequently. Since installing the new pump the drain backs up into the tub whenever the sump pumps down. The tub then drains but obviously an undesirable residue is left behind. This never happened with the old pump. Is the new pump just that much stronger that the drain line cant handle it? Might getting the drain lines cleaned out help?
