Hello,

I need to replace my kitchen sprayer. It is connected to the underside of the sink, and the connection is the threaded type. I have tried a special $20 tool from Home Depot, CLR, WD40 and lots of elbow grease. I simply can’t get it to even loosen. Any ideas? Thanks

First of all, there are usually two flat spots on that brass nut, meant to accept an open end or crescent type of adjustable wrench.

If they are not there or are worn off, a channel lock type of wrench should work.

A vice grip type can also work, but people tend to over tighten them, which can crush the nut or distort the threaded nipple it attaches to.

Also, wd40 is not the best choice for a rusted on brass nut.

You need a penetrating oil, such as PB Blaster or many other brands.
And let it soak in for several hours or even a full day.
Apply it several times, and tap lightly on the nut with a wrench twenty or thirty times, the little taps help the oil to start penetrating the corrosion.

You might have to grab the middle of that threaded nipple with a vice grip type of wrench, or it might come loose as you try to loosen the brass nut.

I think Frodo is trying to illustrate “lefty loosie”.
He thinks you are turning the nut the wrong way, which is very possible.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will get some oil and try your suggestions. Thanks!

It’s easy to turn a nut the wrong way when you are upside down or sideways under a sink.

Did you use a basin wrench? If its that tight maybe you can just take the faucet off the sink and get it out to
where you can really turn on it. I had to do that last spring for about the same reason.
