Stinky bathroom sink

Hi-

For the last few days when I brush my teeth I smell a foul odor coming from the sink drain in the bathroom. The odor shows up after the water's been running for about 5-10 seconds. Once I'm done and I turn off the water the odor goes away. With 4 kids and Christmas coming up I would really like to fix this on my own instead of having to pay someone. Any ideas?

This is usually caused by gunk and crud building up in the overflow drain. This is usually cured by pouring some heavy bleach solution down the overflow, and then blowing it out with an air compressor.
