So I have been battling with my spin down filter for about 2 weeks now. It had been in for about 7 years. I went down to wash some baby clothes because my son had just been born. As I walked into the laundry room I heard water leaking. I rushed over to see my spin down filter leaking water. I shut the water off and washed clothes else where knowing I didn't have time to fix it yet.

I went out and collected the correct parts to replace everything and went about fixing it.

Since then the spin down filter keeps breaking the glue by thread (1" by 3/4). I have went out and replaced the schedule 40 with schedule 80 and it has lasted about a week now, then cracked that one last night.

I have checked pressures on the pressure tank and they are set at 48 to turn on and 74 to turn off.

When tightening this I have been hand tightening the "in" side and holding the "outside" with a crescent wrench while tightening the nipple on the outside of the filter.

I have checked the glue we are using and its rated at 0-100 degrees. Figured I would throw that in since I live in Alaska.

Anything would help. Im stumped!

I have switch the pipe from steel to copper. The spin down filter is CPVC while the glue by thread is PVC I believe. I am using blue monster tape and glue and rectorseal pipe dope.

I've done a bit more research and now know that 74 psi is a little high for the pressure pump but not high enough to be causing my problems. I will fix that this evening and go from there.

cpvc needs cpvc glue
pvc needs pvc glue
you can not glue cpvc to pvc
you must use primer with your glue
if you have a pump present, the vibration will shake the pvc and your threaded joits will eventually break

you need vibration isolation between pump and equipment

2nd picture close up...do i see the oring sticking out of the fitting ?

the nut is to tight

Never thread metal into a pvc female adapter, always use pvc male adapter and female copper, brass, or galvanized.
