Hello. Yesterday I had snaked my the front main drain line (outside my front house) with a RIGID K-400 drain cleaner with a 75' 3/8" snake, hoping the clog was there since my main bathroom (located in middle of front house) tub had back flow and water of toilet would not go down smoothly when flushing. Also, my shower stall of my master bathroom (back of house, left side) had backflow of water along with my toilet water not flushing in smoothly when flushed. After snaking the front main drain, I snaked the bathtub, sink, and used the short hand held snake used for toilets. Then, I snaked my master bathroom---sink, snake used for toilets with the short hand held snake, and then the shower stall, but the shower stall still had water (I'm thinking because it may have a p-trap, the water did go down a bit). I was able to scoop out hair, and cotton in my master bathroom shower stall!! After this, I thought the problem was solve...NOPE! When I showered last night at my shower stall, the water never drained. So today, I will try to snake the kitchen sink (front of house, right side) then the sink in the garage (front of house, left side) where my washer is connected/joined in with the sink plumbing, and hope that this will solve it. IF NOT, what is my other option?? Is there a drain screw under the house I can use? Or is there a root problem? This is really making me frustrated...PLEASE HELP. :(

With that frustration, I believe I would be calling a plumber and letting him make the decision on what needs to be cleared. IMHO it is money well spent.

HO HO hO !!!!! Up ON The Roof Santa!!!! if no cleanout in the yard, go down thru the vent !!!!!!!!!

How do I snake or even bring up my Rigid K400 in the roof? And how to tell which vent is for the plumbing?

You used a Rigid K400 w/ 3/8 cable Even though it's rated for up to 3" cable I wouldn't use it for anything larger than a 2" line.

The P-trap in the shower will always hold water in the bottom. When the tub and showers were holding water did the cleanout you used in the front hold water as well. If you run water into it with a hose and it doesn't back up , you're wasting your time. Flush a toilet . Do you see the water pass through the clean out? Run water in the kitchen . Do you see or here it run pass the Cleanout in front of the house. Don't waste your time cabling a drain that is working. That's like changing the battery in your car because you have a flat tire.

If the shower is not draining and you have standing water in the pan. turn on a sink faucet and run that .does water water start to flow up from the shower? if you flush a toilet does it come up in the shower. If not then they are not effected by the stoppage .

I'm just frustrated because where else can I snake? Do you think it's roots? Also, how much is the usual fee for a plumber in southern CA?

If you have a 2" or 1- 1/2" vent, Put you mouth on the vent and blow. if there is resistance the drain is holding water and you just might be able to clear it through the vent. No back pressure Forget trying to clear from roof vent.

If you don't know which is sewer vents and or other vents you better stop now and call someone who does

as David said, if you dont know witch vent is which, or how to get the machine on the roof, call a plumber

IT'S WHAT WE DO!!!!

What part of So. Calif. I'm just outside San Diego. about a $100/hour
but call around and ask for their rates. Lots of drain cleaners can pop a single drain for less. Careful many will try to up sell you stuff you don't need.

You can PM me a list of prospects and I might be able to warn you on who not to call.

Having much experience with the k400, you aren't doing much good with that cable, at that length in a 3 or 4 inch pipe. You gotta beef up to do a proper job, especially if you have root issues. If that doesn't solve it, have a camera inspection done or hire a company who does both.

Do you think I may have busted a pipe? I snaked almost all of 75' of the 3/8 snake. I just finished using my big shop vac. to suck out all the water in my rear bathroom crawl space so at least the plumber can ID the cause. And for the front bathroom area, I guess we'll just have to cut out a hole on the crawl space vent to suck out the excess water. The plumber said it may just be a backed up sewer line (I'm hoping that's the only cause and probably the two toilet wax needs to be changed and replaced since water was seeping on the base of the toilet. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. How much do you think this will run me $$$? :(

Cost??? probably a few bills. Some guys will charge you extra to crawl through the muck under a house. I charge by the hour. Plus the visqeen I roll out to get back to where I need to look. Never know what you will find. I had a house that had more than a foot of water under it . Took me all day just to pump it out.

I have blown into vent pipes on a 3 or 4 floor building with a 1st floor kitchen stoppage and when there is back pressure I have cleared that from the roof. Old well known trick for drain cleaning.

There's a very large Local Family owned Plumbing Company here that used to have a logo of a plumber blowing into a pipe. That is until a local radio show got wind of it. Looked like he was doing something else. About a week or 2 later he had all the trucks and logos touched up and the pipe removed. here's the logo with out the pipe. Was looking to see if could find the original logo. NO luck.

...took me 2 hours using my 16gal shop vac. with my master bathroom in the rear. I hoping the plumber has a bigger, heavy duty vac. that will be faster to do the front of the house. Do you think, he'll go up the roof to try out this vent blowing technique, LOL. Anyways, I hope the problem is not major. And I'll just return my Rigid k400 back to HD since it did nothing to help the issue. :( Also, I'm also concerned with the moister left behind once the water has been sucked out. Any recommendation of options to prevent mold or so build up and to increase dry time of the went crawl space area (since it's not summer to help heat up the house).

Lastly, what's a good moisture reader/detector tool?

You don't. Ridgid k-400 is NOT for main lines. It is for up to 2" lines only. You are using the wrong tool. Used drain cleaning machines are NOT returnable at HD due to haz-met regulations. Note on the carton the label says not returnable. For less than the money you have wasted on the k-400 you could have had your drain cleared by a professional. Good luck.

I'll have to check the box out later.

I did what you said. I flushed each toilet and it drained in the drain out pipe outside my front house, so did the sinks, and shower, but what's up with the back flow in my rear shower stall and the toilet leaking water on the base? Do you think it's the main drain line that's ABS? I just checked right now after shop vac. the rear bathroom crawl space and there is water up to my ankle. My father-in-law had to use the restroom so maybe that's the cause or the mud moisture going down slope towards the main ABS line???
