I just replaced the shower head in our bathroom. When we turn the water on full blast, it starts making a loud reptative banging noise, like a machine gun. And we often enough lose water pressure. No where else in the house has this problem. It is also an old house, built in the late 1800's. How do I fix this problem?

Sounds to me like you have a partial blockage in your water line to the shower head. Remove the shower head and check to see if the rubber washer inside the screw fitting is out of place. Or it could be a bad diverter if you have a three handle faucet. The problem did not exist prior to installing the new shower head, right? I would guess your problem is at the end of the shower arm at the new shower head.

New stuff from box stores is also jam packed full of flow restrictors and sediment screens to conform with California standards. Something in there could also be plugged up. I just remove the screens, as its often more of a hassle then good.
