Hi, I have a sewage ejector in the basement and lately the toilet paper from the basement toilet has started to hold the float down and cause it to overflow.

The pump has a metal u bar above the float and the float is attached at the top and bottom so its not on a tether. Sort of like a lever and what is happening is the TP stacks on top of the float preventing it form lifting. The drain pipe from the basement bathroom sits directly above the pump and is aimed in a way that tp shoots out of it on top of the float.

I can't turn the pump without rerouting the vent and sewage drain line and am looking for the path of least resistance here.

This is my setup:

is there a better pump that doesn't use that type of float? IE one on a tether instead?

Any thoughts?

You could change to a regular float switch instead of a side mount, and mount it to the discharge pipe. That will get it out of the way of the inlet, but it won't solve your paper problem if you are using a brand that doesn't break down well.

I had the opposite problem with an erratic float on a Myers pump. Sometimes it wouldn't shut off. Got a Flotec switch at HD, zip tied it to the discharge pipe, plugged the pump into the new switch and problem solved. It's been about 20 years and so far so good.

these expensive, thick, super soft, absorbant, toilet papers do not break down and are hell on pumps and septic systems.

what you need is SCOTT septic safe toilet paper. it starts breaking down in the bowl, by the time it gets to your pump

its mush

donot understand your tank either. why isn't your pump in a "hole"

I think I solved it.

I went to HD and bought a 4" 45 degree elbow and put it on the drain pipe to shoot the waste away from the float. Now the tp doesn't get anywhere near the top of the float. Hoping I can seal this thing up for a long time now.

Not sure what you mean? The pump sits in a sewage basin in the foundation in the basement.

Like so: http://reviews.homedepot.com/1999/1...x-18-in-sewage-pump-basin-reviews/reviews.htm

I think he means from that picture it looks like your pump is sitting within a hole in your catch basin.
