The location between my bathtub/trap and vent exceed the ICC distance code for a 1 1/2" drain. I was thinking of taking advantage of coming off the bathtub and creating a 2' horizontal run and then install a running trap to get within code for the trap to vent distance. Does the use of a running trap sound like a viable solution. I do not see this trap as being prohibitive under P3201.5 in the ICC code. The trap is in a crawl space and is readily accessible.

A running trap is not allowed by either the upc ipc or icc codes. you are under the ipc in chicago
I think I understand what you want to do
Let me give a suggestion that will get you legal

move the vent closer.
