At the end of January our son complained of a sewer smell in a bathroom (Orlando, FL location). At first thought it a sewer pipe issue. It was not. Hot water was the source. Drained and flushed the hot water tank twice. (tank is 10 + years old and drained once before). Lots of sediment which even had the smell in it if you rubbed the larger particles together. Also changed anode rod to a Corro-Protec powered rod made with titanium as a relative solved his sulfur smell with this. Hot water now has no smell, but the COLD water does at every tap. Variable: on Dec. 18th he had a whole house water filter installed. If he bypasses the filter for a day, the smells seems to go away. I was at first wondering if the dip tube could be siphoning some existing particles from bottom of hot water tank, but now wondering if the chlorinated water bypassing the filter takes care of the municipal water supply. I am open to any thoughts. Thank you!
