Here are a few pictures of 4" cast iron DWV under the concrete floor in my basement. I am in the process of replacing the concrete floor and decided that I might as well replace the cast iron with PVC while it is exposed. I plan to replace it with the same exact layout, except adding a backwater valve toward the front of the house (first picture in line with the shovel).

Is there anything in the layout that is problematic considering updated codes and therefore should be changed? Any advice, including "it looks okay", is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Be sure to put a clean-out on both sides of the backwater valve. One facing the building drain and the other facing the building sewer. Use wyes or combos for your clean-out so they are directional. I would recommend using a cast iron backwater valve over the plastic ones. The plastic ones flappers tends to come unhanged and cause stoppages.

IFIXH20 - Thanks for your input. I appreciate it. My backwater valve (similar to the picture below) has a large, round threaded cap on top and a 10" diameter riser on top of that which will allow access to the cap on top of the backwater valve. Do you still recommend clean-outs?

Yes, you still need clean-outs. Heed the warning, stay away from the plastic backwater valves. Which ever BWV you decide to go with be sure to service it every year. ( lube all moving parts, grease rubber gasket, remove any build-up)
