Hi....I live in a townhome I bought last year. I noticed a banging noise once in while but could never figure it out. Well I've now figured out the noise is coming from the basement, where the main water pipe comes into the house. I've noticed the pipe will move around a little when the noise occurs, obviously because of the banging that's occuring. I had a plumber replace/install a water pressure reducer last year for another issue, but the problem occurred both before and after that. What I've noticed is that it is very random, does not occur when the water runs, and it seems to have gotten worse. The noise seems to occur mainly where the main water supply pipe runs along the ceiling of the laundry room. The noise is kind of a clanging/banging sound, not rapid fire like a machine gun, but more of once-a-second or half second bang lasting anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds. Any ideas what the issue is? Tested the water pressure outside the house and it was about 57. I have a video but don't think I can post that on here.
