Oops I knicked a boiler pipe!

I was cutting out the old cast iron main stack with a grinder and it grabbed and shot out and hit a hot water rad pipe going to the second floor, it's not leaking but is there something I can wrap it with for extra security. I really don't want to splice it because I would have to drain the system and its really old. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What type pipe? Copper or black iron? Post a picture.

It's copper.

I would cut it where you hit it and solder a coupling at that point. The copper pipe used for heating is type M tubing which is very thin.
