Last week we purchased and installed a new electric water heater. Yesterday our city shut off our water for approximately 5 hours while they installed new culinary water pipes. Ever since we installed the new water heater, there was no smell coming from the hot water until today. I have been smelling an oil/diesel fuel type smell whenever I am running hot water. Could there be problems with our new water heater? Or could the city shutting off our water cause our new water heater to have problems or omit this type of smell?
