I had a leaking back flow preventer and rather than taking it apart and cleaning it, I just replaced it with a new one. It is the exact same model, a Watts 1/2 9D-M3. However, now there appears to be an almost ammonia type smell in the water. Sometimes strong sometimes faint. Any ideas? The house is not very old, built in 2004.
