Hello. I purchased a house a few months ago and am trying to identify exactly what this is. I believe it's a water softener.

Does anyone recognize this and know the brand and model (most of the writing has faded off of the label)?

Also, there is a small house running around the side that isn't connected... should it be?

Should I be doing any maintenance on this?

Looks to be water treatment that’s been bypassed with valves so it’s not operating.

Interesting, thank you. So if the valves were turned back on, water would start running through it again?

Does anyone recognize the brand/model?

I wouldn’t turn it back on. It would probably contaminate your water supply.

Replace or remove it entirely.

There’s no telling whats been growing in those tanks.

It's a Kinetico water softener I believe. They are unpowered, using water pressure only. Looks like it's leaked in some essential areas and will need repair/replacement. Don't see the salt tank though. Contact a local Kinetico rep for further information.

Appreciate all the info. For the time being, is there anything I should/could to to verify that the water coming into my house isn't running through it? Or does the little detached hose confirm that it is being bypassed?

The two valves on the vertical pipes are closed and the valve on the horizontal pipe connecting the two vertical pipes is open. That means the water is flowing through the horizontal connecting valve which is bypassing the units
