Please help identifying a shutoff valve that isolates the water softener system. It is weeping/leaking a little and I would like to replace it, but I don't know what it is called to look it up and purchase a replacement. My plumber who will do the work when he replaces our hot water heater has no idea what it is. Here is a picture:

You need to get the brand name and model number off of your softener and then go from there. I believe it is
called a water softener service by-pass valve. Whomever makes that softener should be able to get you a new valve.

Post a better, brighter picture, that shows the brass body of the valve, and how it attaches to the softener.

That valve might be specific to your model, maybe not.

Softeners usually have three valves, In, Out, and Bypass, this valve might be doing all that by itself.
