My stairwell leading to sub grade basement has a drain but no cover. The drain is about 6.5" semi-circle. I can't find what type of drain cover I could buy to fit this odd shaped opening. The home was built in 1958. I recall my parents house had a similar drain and that house was built in 1963.

Thanks for the replies. Both great ideas. Was just wondering why I could not find any related products anywhere on the web. Have you ever seen a design like this?

That would be a mortal sin. I would never bring a ford part anywhere near by Chevys. I don't even let my sister-in-law park her Explorer in my driveway ;) Thanks for the guidance I am brainstorming now on the material and approach to fabrication.

It looks like that remaining chunk of cast iron could be pried out or busted out with a cold chisel.

The old cover was probably round and this is just the only part left.

You can get sturdy round plastic covers made for lawn drainage at Home Depot.
Usually in black or green pvc.
They could be easily trimmed, if you want to leave that last chunk on there.

The two polypropylene drain covers listed above have specs showing their outside diameter as 6 and 3/4 inches.

So if they are a whisker too wide, just file it down, or take off a tiny bit with a belt sander.

The old cast iron cover might have had a few tacks of solder to hold it down, but I think you could get that goofy chunk out of there with some persuasion, even trying just banging in a flat screwdriver under the outside edge.

If you use plexi glass you could use a hole saw they make them up to at least 6”

Looks like a bell drain? Did they ever make hinged cast iron lids for these?
