I went to replace a Moen cartridge in my single handle shower faucet expecting this to be fairly easy. The problem I'm having is removing the round piece in front of the stop tube (unsure if that is the correct name) in the upper picture. When I try pulling it towards me to remove it, the water turns on like they are connected together some how.

The bottom picture shows the the type of faucet

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks

Johnjh2o,

Thanks for the information - worked like a charm - I'm always cautious pulling too hard on plumbing fixtures

Matt, both Moen and Delta had it some time ago. Moen also had a Allen screw inside the stem were the handle screw went. When you tightened it it forced grease into the stem.

That part you pulled off is just the inside of the plastic handle. instead of make the plastic handle one piece it used that metal insert so the part that attaches to the stem would be more durable. production wise it's just easier to make the plastic handle all plastic now.
