Hi All,

I am wondering if any one could help me understand this setup I have at my house. The main water feeding into my house goes through this loop with three valves and a pressure reducer on one of the portions of it. To me it seems that if all valves are open it would bypass the pressure reducer? Does any one know why I would have a setup like this?

The valve on the loop is supposed to be closed, unless you want to bypass the prv , then it should be open and the other two closed.

You can isolate the prv If you ever need to replace it. you won't have to shut water to the house

Not a typical set up for a single family home.
ByPass loops like that are sometimes used on multi-unit buildings for the purpose of servicing the pressure reducing valve with out shutting off the water to the building.

Probably a plumber, with more commercial experience, over thinking and applying what he was taught when that service was installed.
