Hello all,
I live in a highrise condo building, and the people in my unit below have been complaining about water leaking on their ceiling every time I take a shower. The building is about 20 years old, and the shower stall in my unit is the original.
The whole problem started last summer. Plumbers hired by the condo corporation came by to take a look, and replaced the drain in the shower, while drywallers and painters repaired the damage to the drywall in the unit directly below mine.
I didn't use the shower for months afterward, and when I used it I got a complaint about water leakage. The plumbers came back, didn't try to pinpoint the source of the problem, and just blithely said, "Oh. You need a new shower. We can put a nice, tiled shower stall in for you for $4200.00". No explanation as to why.
So I hired my own plumber, and he couldn't find any problem with the drain. He checked the cartridges in the faucet and they were fine. He also stated that the base of the shower was solid and there were no signs of cracks or flexing that could cause water to leak outside the drain. He did apply translucent caulking on the seams of the shower stall, which is made of fibreglass.
I'm totally stumped. If it's not the shower stall itself that is causing the leak, and the drain is fine, what could be causing the leak, and what can I do about it??
