Hello, my shower faucet is leaking. I would like to replace the washers, but don't know how to remove the nut that turns the shower on and off. See picture. I'm trying to get the square nut in the picture off. Any advice on how to do that? If I keep turning to left, it ultimately stops, but doesn't come off.
Thanks

The "nut" is not a nut. It is an adaptor to make a specific type of universal replacement handle work with the faucet stem. Do not worry about them. Use an adjustable wrench on the wrench flats of the stem (the flat surfaces on the round stem) to remove the stems and access the washers. Be sure to resurface or replace the seats too.
