Water's been leaking onto wood floor for months. Finally got someone in to look at it and he showed us that the "rust stain" by the drain actually had a hole in it! He gave us an estimate to replace the tub, etc.

However, I prefer to gut and remodel both bathrooms but have to wait a little while to save some $$. Does anyone know of a temporary fix so we can still use that shower until I am able to remodel?

He actually said the tub itself needs to be replaced? Are you able to take any photos of the issue? Most leaking tub issues I've worked on involve removing the tub strainer and replacing the gasket or adding plumbers putty.

Unfortunately, no pics. My son applied Permatex (he's 19), so it's covered up. But the hole is actually next to the strainer. So some of the water is still going down the drain and some of it is going through the hole directly onto the slab.

Here's what is actually in the estimate: Remove old tub, Disposal of Old tub
Replace with Set new tub and run new waste and overflow.

So, yeah.

Ohh ok. So the hole is actually in the tub itself. I didn't get that from the original post. I'd say that temp fix your son made should work for now...

bout as long as a fart in a whirlwind. you need to shut that tub down till yuo get it fixed

WHY? to very good reasons. termites and foundation failure

termites LOVE leaks at the tub hole.

and the water will undermine your foundation, make your slab fail.

Yeah, I definitely don't want termites or slab/foundation failure. Was hoping something could be done temporarily, like some kind of cement or putty, something that would at least last a few months. I can't stand using the other shower.
