Kitchen sink drains poorly

My double kitchen sink won't drain well. When one side drains the other fills up. After waiting a while it will all drain. Pics attached. The pipe to the garbage disposal bends around all over the place. Also there is no air gap and there is a dishwasher. I know nothing about plumbing but I imagine a pipe with less curves to the disposal would be better. Thanks.

If you want to keep the disposal, you will need to get into the wall behind the sink and lower the drain arm. The disposal is currently holding water, and you will have nothing but trouble until it is corrected.
