I know this can be done better, i was in a hurry to complete it before the hurricane struck. Going back in a few weeks, what would be the corrective action here ?

The maximum seal depth for a P-trap is 4". I'm sure yours is well over that. The tailpiece with the dishwasher connection needs to be attached to the sink and the P-trap raised up such that it can be ran horizontally into the drainpipe without those double elbows you have there.
 
Yes. That was my first try. When you install the dw tail directly onto the sink, the trap was lower than the drain. I know that has to be higher to make the dishwasher connection above the drain, I ran out of time and just had to get it connected before I left. We are not using the dw until I fix it. Thank you.
