Hi all,

I have a bad drip that has become a slow flow in my 64 year old wall-mount kitchen faucet. I called a plumber and he said the stems were shot and that I'd need a new faucet. But to install a new faucet he'd have to dig into my wall.

I don't have the money right now to redo the wall after he tears into it. So I am waiting until I can afford to upgrade the entire kitchen next year. For now I need a temporary measure to stop the flow.

All the aerators with shut offs I am finding don't have full shut offs. They just slow the flow to a trickle.

Can anyone suggest a stop-gap that will shut off my water? My 64 year old house does not have an under sink shutoff, so that is not an option. My big fear is that one of those stems will eventually give out from over tightening the handles. So I need another way so we can be more careful.

Thanks!

Can you post pics of faucet? A good plumber should be able to install a new faucet with no problems

Try to get a second opinion. It seems the plumbers solution is what is best for him, not necessarily for you.

Hi. I appreciate the responses!

It's not that he can't fix it, it's that he has to rip out part of the wall to do it, and I don't want him to do that.

I highly doubt the wall needs to be cut open. Have someone else look at it. Can you post pics

Have someone else look at it. I have repaired thousands of faucet drips and NEVER had to go in to the wall. I think your "plumber" missed a portion of his apprenticeship training. Maybe he was sick that month.
