I need to change the anode rod in my water heater. There is duct work directly above the water heater and I'm not sure if there's enough room to get a solid anode rod in. I can almost get the rod vertical to the hole, but not quite. Is this good enough or does that rod need to be perfectly aligned with the hole?

Why? Age? Symptoms?
More just for a baseline. The WH is about 5 years old and we have pretty hard water. If the old anode looks ok, I'll just put it back in and keep the new rod for a couple more years before installing. I'm planning my yearly flush of the WH and thought I'd just do the anode at the same time if it needs it.
