Did that and still leaks. Just wanted to make sure that's the right part before I order online and send someone to pick up at Home Depot. Can you confirm? Thanks

Take it apart and see how it seals. Some have a washer and some don’t.

Seal could be cracked. If not, pipe dope it and put it back together. Silicone gasket maker works too.

If that fails, replace it.

To close the loop on this, I got a new plastic J-bend from Home Depot, and asked the handyman to put it in while he was here for some other stuff. He elected to put teflon tape on the old one and put it back in. Started leaking again hours later... but it stopped about 2 weeks later. Like my other leaks... looks easy enough to replace myself but with my luck, I'll cause something else to leak. Probably just leave it alone for now and make sure not to jostle it.

Be careful when you take the p-trap apart as where the tailpiece goes in the top is crooked. Try to put it back
in straight.
Yes I noticed it's crooked which is why I'm reluctant to replace it. It might start to leak there instead.
Thanks to the others for their suggestions. Will probably address this next year with some other stuff, assuming it doesn't leak uncontrollably before then.
