I was just wondering if I should install an insulation jacket or not?
I have an AO Smith 40gallon with an R value of 16. The owners manual says the "manufacturer does not recommended installing an insulation jacket" because the tank meets necessary code...but then proceeds to tell you about certain items if you choose to add one (new stickers, owners manual on outside of jacket, etc). The US Dept of Energy recommends insulation of any heater below an R value of 24.
Which do I follow?? I have insulated the hot water pipe already.
