I am updating our 1992-era bathroom, including replacing the house's original Moen tub hardware. I have removed the spout and the handles, but there is a flange, or "trim ring" at the base of each handle which Moen calls "escutcheon" - that I cannot budge. Does it screw on? I cannot unscrew it. Is it supposed to lift up easily? I have attempted to pry it - no luck. I then assumed that I must remove the plastic nut (see pic) in order to remove these flanges, but the nut will turn only a few times before stopping. Loosening this nut on either the Hot and/or Cold handle does not appear to loosen the flange. Although I do want to remove both flanges, I do not want to break them in the process. I have looked at Moen schematic diagrams of a similar fixture - T999, but it does not show how the escutcheon is connected. See pics of the Moen schematic, and my tub's handles/flanges. Any tips on how to properly remove these flanges would be greatly appreciated!
