Before hiring a pro I would like to get some insight on this scenario. As of now I have a storage hot water tank connected to my oil boiler. It’s an old dinosaur “Ford” make with no type of tag on it for information. My understanding is they stopped making them back in 1992. I’ve had the house for 28 years and it was here before me.
Knock on wood it has not given me any trouble except for its efficiency, using a lot of oil.
Due to $1000 rebate program from my electric company I purchased a heat pump water tank for efficiency.
That’s the background and now the question.
I would like the new heat pump water tank installed in my laundry room and not in my boiler room.
Can I have the plumber put a shut off valve on the Supply and Return pipes going from the boiler to the old storage water tank to close it down and use the old storage tank as a back up in case anything ever happened to the newly installed heat pump water tank?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
