Hi,

My home has two water heaters. One in a garage closet and one in an interior hall closet. Based on location in the home I had always assumed that the interior hall closet heater supplied the two full baths and the garage closet heater supplied the kitchen and half bath. Recently the garage water heater went out and while it was down we had no hot water at any faucet in the house. Now that it is replaced all is working fine but it leaves me wondering what the purpose of the hall water heater is. As a test I shut off the inlet water line to the hall water heater and no faucet shows a loss of pressure. When I shut off the inlet to the garage closet water heater every faucet in the house has no hot water pressure. Is there any way to determine where the hall water heaters pipes go? It doesnt appear to do anything. I've shut off the breaker to it now and still have hot water throughout the house.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Is there any baseboard or hot water heat in the house anywhere. I have seen water heaters heat fin tube in basements before

someone may have the 2 heaters piped together

which is really stupid, with them not being next to each other

try this, average bath tub holds 100 /110 gallons of water

fill your tub with hot water only [no cold water] see if you can run the water heater out of hot water

take note as to the amount of hot water before it turns cold.

THEN. turn off the water heater in question. and let it sit for 24 hours

then

do your test again

is there less hot water? the same? MORE? LOL
