Purchased my house a little while back and found out that I have a water filter in my refrigerator as well as an inline water filter in the line going to my fridge.

So, I have extra filtered water. ☹

The inline filter started leaking at one of the connection points, so I had to turn off the water line to the refrigerator.

I have had my tap water (unfiltered) tested and it has a little hardness but is otherwise high-quality. The filter simply removes some of the unpleasant taste caused by hardness.

So, should I remove the inline filter pictured below? Is this easy? Is there a good set of instructions out on the web? I’m not a plumber and basically can use a hose and replace the flapper on the inside of my toilet tank.

Thanks.

Joe, try pushing the pipe in the filter as they look like push on connectors. If you want to get rid of it you will have to get a
compression coupling to attach to the copper after you cut it and then take a piece of plastic tubing and go from
the connector to the valve. That will eliminate the filter. Here is a picture of the coupling. If you use plastic tubing
make sure you use plastic ferrules. On the copper use the ferrule that comes with the coupling.coupling 1.png

Disconnect the plastic tube from the valve.
Not going to tell you to turn the valve off 1st.
That should be a no brainer.

In copper tub not long enough , get a short piece and add to it with a 1/4 x 1/4 compression coupling

If that line still going to fridge keep the filter. The amazing refrigerator salesmen never mentions that the water for ice doesn’t go thru factory filter.

And they thought we wouldn’t notice. But go look at your solenoid. One line goes into fridge and the other straight up to ice maker. Keep a changeable filter.
